The DOCTRID Research Institute is delighted to welcome 2 new partners, Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) and Designability at Bath Institute of Medical Engineering. We were joined by President Denis Cummins of DkIT and Dr Nigel Harris from Designability at the DOCTRID IV Conference in Belfast on 27th April 2015 where both partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the DOCTRID Research Institute. DkIT is carrying out innovative research through the Netwell Centre and the CASALA applied research centre to allow people to live independently for longer in their own homes by integrating community care and home adaptations (smarthomes). Read more about Netwell and CASALA here.

Designability is a UK charity which has transformed over 250,000 lives in the last 46 years. They work on a range of research and development projects in Assistive technology and Children’s mobility and seating. Some projects include 1) developing a simplified video link system for people with dementia to help them stay connected with family and friends, 2) examining the barriers to adoption of Assistive technology and 3) dynamic seating for children with whole body spasms which moves with the child during spasms. Read more about Designability here.

Both institutions welcome ASSISTID Fellows and are happy to work with potential applicants to develop a research project.
